Riverbed goes in to private hands, in a $3.6 billion private equity deal.
SDN Central has reported that Riverbed plans to go private.
Riverbed agreed Monday morning to be acquired by a private equity firm for $3.6 billion.
Riverbed Technology, headquartered in San Francisco, specializes in improving the performance of networks and networked applications, supplying both appliances and software.
They got in to OSS in 2012 when they acquired OPNET and their performance and network planning applications.
Post-acquisition, things were challenging for Riverbed as they tried to restructure their business around new solutions, not just software but also more profitable appliance/hardware markets.
According SDN Central’s report, the majority of Riverbed’s investors are happy to have sold the business.
