The extended multi-year contract will support quad-play services across their wireless, cable and telephony network. On January 27th Amdocs announced a win to expand use of their OSS […]

Comparing OSS and BSS Benchmarks
January 25, 2009
I’m not in a sceptical mood today, despite the grey skies, rain and hail. So as I write about vendor benchmarks you won’t see me using idioms such as ‘take with a pinch of salt’. I have no reason not to believe that OSS vendors’ benchmarks, what few have been published, are anything but […]
Tribold. Kerching! $11 Million in VC Funding
January 14, 2009
Tribold have announced an injection of US$11 Million from venture capitalists Intel Capital, DFJ Esprit and Eden Ventures. The PR is here. Light Reading has a good write-up on the boost to Tribold’s reputation from not only being able to secure funding in a difficult economic climate, but also from apparently being sought-out by Intel […]
Netcracker win at Mobinil
January 13, 2009
Netcracker have won a deal with Mobinil to supply inventory, discovery, design and planning. Mobinil is an Egyptian mobile operator with about 20 million subscribers. The PR in full is here, but it doesn’t say much more.
Amdocs win at Vodafone D2
January 6, 2009
Another OSS win at Amdocs’ favourite communications service provider Vodafone. This time it’s a win at the German subsidiary, Vodafone D2. Here’s the PR. Amdocs’ strength in mobile OSS is in network planning and build which plays to D2’s requirement for a system to aid convergence with the Arcor network acquired in May 2008.

Telcordia at 25
January 6, 2009
Being part of something from the start is a great experience, one I was lucky enough to have with Cramer Systems. Early in Cramer’s life Telcordia were the incumbent competition. While a lot of the good stuff about joining a start-up is the friendship, varied work and transparency of the organisation, there’s also a feeling […]
Make OSS People Happy: Give Them Less Choice!
January 5, 2009
How quickly can a team of developers, with an understanding of OSS data models and system design, produce a reasonably useful OSS application? The answer is inversely proportional (not a phrase I've used much since A-level mathematics class) to the amount of *choice* built in to the application. Note that I said 'choice' not 'complexity'. […]
‘Mobile Europe’ Summary of BSS/OSS in 2008
December 18, 2008
Mobile Europe has a good summary of what’s been going on in BSS/OSS in the last year. There’s some speculation about what the 2009 global recession will bring to the industry but, inevitably, little certainty.
Top 5 OSS Platform Architecture ‘Things’
December 10, 2008
A little while ago, following someone’s good advice, I produced a one-page flyer/data-sheet/brochure outlining how I can help OSS vendors and customers with their platform architecture designs. Check it out. Offering my services as an independent consultant it’s good to have a niche; something only I and a few other people can offer. A rare combination of more common skills […]
